Today’s message summary of July 7, 2019 from Pastor Gus Brown:
The Holy Spirit imparts what Jesus has purchased for us–our inheritance through Him.
What is the process that one must go through in order to receive this inheritance?
Are you ready to receive it?
What will keep you from it?
John 19:30
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
“It is finished” represents completeness and fulfillment.
Christ satisfied God’s justice concerning sin. At the same time, it set Him free to to what He desires to do in each of our lives. The qualities of the Holy Spirit becomes our qualities to make us more like Jesus. Remember that before this only the high priest had access to God within His temple, and this followed a period of 400 years where God was silent before the emergence of Jesus Christ.
Note that these are qualities of the Holy Spirit that we are to impart. This is our inheritance:
1. Holiness (Psalm 51:11; Romans 1:4)
2. Wisdom (Isaiah 11:2; 1 Corinthians 1:30)
3. Understanding (Isaiah 11:2; 1 Corinthians 2:12)
4. Counsel (Isaiah 11:2)
5. Supplication (Zechariah 12:10)
6. Worship (John 4:23)
7. Truth (John 14:17)
8. Comfort (John 14:26)
9. He is Life (Romans 8:2)
10. Adoption (Romans 8:15)
11. Faith (2 Corinthians 4:13)
12. Love (2 Timothy 1:7)
13. Might (2 Timothy 1:7)
14. Sound Judgment or Self-Discipline (2 Timothy 1:7)
15. Revelation – To Know God Better (Ephesians 1:17)
16. Power (Ephesians 3:20; Romans 15:13)
17. To Cleanse our Consciences (Hebrews 9:14)
18. The Spirit of Grace (Hebrews 10:29)
19. The Spirit of Glory (1 Peter 4:14)
Psalm 51:11-12
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
The inheritance is received through the power of the Holy Spirit imparting wisdom and knowledge to you. He gives you this understanding through counsel and reveals truth. By seeking Him and His holiness, He will reveal truth to you and give you what you need to pursue His holiness.
(Some people don’t want to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say because they already know that He will share with us something to correct our behaviors that we do not want to hear…or do.)
The prayer of a person should include seeking the Holy Spirit to provide peace and comfort to overcome any fears and to trust God in all situations.
This is all part of your inheritance. Unless you ask for these things, you don’t realize or recognize the completeness of your inheritance.
2 Corinthians 4:13
Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
2 Timothy 1:6-7
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
The inheritance is the revelation of Jesus Christ in order that you know Him and get to know Him in a greater way. To know Him more and more is to trust Him more and more. He loves you and holds you in high esteem. He died on the cross for you. There is nothing that He will withhold from you.
The inheritance is not just about saving you from hell and damnation. It is all about the Holy Spirit working in your life right now.
He is willing to reveal Himself to you.
Ephesians 1:16-21
I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Hebrews 9:11-14
But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
Unless the Holy Spirit provides cleansing of your own perceptions of Jesus Christ, you will remain stagnant in your growth.
Satan comes to rob you, but the Holy Spirit comes to provide life, and not just a good life, but an abundant life.
Pray to the Lord to provide healing and relief from your past hurts and those things that were indecent, and allow Him to work in your life for the betterment of your relationship with Him and with others.
Ephesians 1:13-14
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
The marking (sealing) takes place after you believe in Jesus Christ. Believing takes place after you have heard the word of truth. You were included in Christ when you heard the truth.
The Holy Spirit is a deposit that guarantees our inheritance.
Hebrews 5:1-6
For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is best with weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,
“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;
as he says also in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”
You cannot lose your salvation, but you can lose your inheritance if you choose disobedience over obedience. That is to lose the completeness of what you are entitled to.
A religious person, by itself, is not enough. Believing in Jesus Christ must include the gospel of truth that comes from God’s Word.
Hebrews 9:15
Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
What are the benefits in the New Covenant?
This is your inheritance.
